Life as on today!!!
Sounds peculiar… well that’s what it is, getting a day’s break after a long and tiresome term, so there is life only for tonight and tomorrow after which the journey begins again.
We completed our 2nd term exams today and a sigh of relief. We had five papers and all of them with open book, seems simple???? That is what it seemed to me too, however not during the exam because they were a complete roller coaster ride, with me having no clue in some of the specialization subjects. The funny aspect in these is that the professors are far more intelligent than we our, result: the books are actually of no use in the exam, one runs short of time to flip through the pages too and locate the topic, however to his dismay finding no hints in it about the question asked.
The Marketing exam, not just open book and open laptop but also internet (an unsaid challenge from the professor: do whatever you can), was allowed giving us all the freedom to use all the facilities, but was it actually of any help??? Hope you would have guessed by now … the papers were looking for direct instincts with one question having all numerous pictures of shoe laces and asking us how we can use them for marketing, and as usual was dumbfound on that question, managed to make out some on spot creative ideas which is on the professor’s discretion to interpret.
The other paper worth mentioning about would be Advanced Financial Statement Analysis, mind boggling, leaving me puzzled as to what it was … including all sorts of funds and cash flows and valuations where I lost most of the time interpreting what actually the question asked and how do I need to go about with it, hope don’t need to reappear for the exam.
The nail in the coffin was the CAT style Financial Mathematics, an objective multiple choice question paper (40 questions, 60 minutes), atop this the ice on the cake was negative marking (sounds weird… that’s what it said to me too) which I realized after submitting the paper, since I hadn’t read the instructions as usual and ended up answering all the questions when others left almost eight to ten questions un attempted.
The other two subjects were more orderly and conservative, better than these at least, giving me peace of mind somewhere at least.
Well that’s all for the exam fervor.
The week ahead would be grueling as usual with loads of pending assignments and group work remaining to be done and new pitching in with their respective subjects.
Gist of the article: after a lot of futile effort can have peace for today and tomorrow at least.
